I think memes are anterior to genes, because they're both vessels for information,
their function is to self-replicate and to mutate, spreading all over the world.
But the existential conditions for memes are less limited,
there're a variety of "hosts" for memes to grow.

For trans-humanism (at least some of them), humanity is merely the stepping stone,
for technology to eventually self-aware and transcends human control.
