但是他沒有直接對著女主角破口大罵,而是用了更迂迴有技巧的方式問

Terry:

Nickie:

Terry:
Yes, yes. I'm fine. I'm just resting.

Nickie:
Good.

Terry:
It's been a long time.

Nickie:
Yes, hasn't it?

Terry:
Well, it is good to see you.

Nickie:

Terry: [沒有讓出她躺的沙發,指向對面的沙發]
Oh, yes. Please do sit down.

Nickie:
I'll only be a minute. Sure you don't mind?

Terry:
No, of course not.

Nickie:
Oh, is this the breathtaking view?

Terry:
Well, the altitude bothered me.

Nickie:

Terry:

Nickie:
I was looking through a telephone book for a man named McBride
and I came across the name "T McKay".

I said to myself "Could that possibly be Terry McKay, my old friend?"

Terry:
And it was.

Nickie:

And then I said to myself "Well, now,I haven't been very nice to Miss
McKay."

"After all, I had an appointmentwith her one day, and I didn't keep
it."

[假裝自己沒去,試探她的反應,因為自己有去所以可以確定,
接下來就看看她會不會說謊或者露出內疚的神情]

Terry:
You didn't keep...
[驚訝]

Nickie:
No.

So I said to myself I talk to myself quite a lot these days
I said "That's not a very nice way to treat an old friend like Miss
McKay."
"I must apologise to Miss McKay."

[事實上是在暗示女主角欠自己一個道歉與交代]
Don't you agree, when someone doesn't
keep an appointment, they should apologise?

Terry:
Yes. I think you're absolutely right.
I think the least people could do is to say they're sorry, or...
something.

Nickie:
So here I am.

Terry:
That's very sweet.

Nickie:
I thought so.

Terry:
I've often wondered about you.And how you were.

Nickie:[冷笑]

Terry:

Nickie:

[試圖讓女主角編織一個自己在大廈現場的謊言,讓女方藉此能體會自己的心情,
能從自己的角度看事情:在那頂樓等會不會生氣?會不會很辛苦?.....]

Terry:

[女主角就順著男主角的劇本演下去,她起初並沒有了解到男主角其實有到場,
但隨著男主角接下來透露出的細節,她才知道男主角是不想讓她難堪才假裝自己沒到]

Terry:

And if one of us didn't show up,it would be for a darn good reason.
